During the recession of 2009, John Ellis founded The John Ellis Company with a simple vision—bring Fortune 500-level expertise to small and mid-size businesses that often get overlooked by larger firms.
Having worked inside big organizations, John saw firsthand both the discipline and the pitfalls. He wanted to carry forward the best practices while leaving behind the bureaucracy and hidden agendas.
Starting during a recession was no easy task. Businesses were cautious, but they also needed guidance more than ever. John focused on listening, earning his first clients by solving the problems that kept them up at night. Trust grew one relationship at a time, and soon referrals began fueling the company’s growth.
Over time, the firm expanded its services from bookkeeping and tax return preparation to Multi State S.A.L.T. advisory, fractional CFO and accounting department support, value added tax advisory in Asia, and on shore international tax consulting; especially as it relates to foreign companies opening operations in the US.
The opening of the first office in Long Beach, California, John had access to the exciting environment around the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach of the supply chain, transportation, warehousing, light manufacturing, and e-Commerce. As more clients expanded overseas, John added a office in Downtown Los Angeles.
